At the end of March, 2010, Orlando’s only downtown independent bookstore closed its doors, and left its legacy and future to those involved with the Urban Think Foundation. I’m happy to report that I’ve been asked to help in the new planning of this space. As we research and plan away, we also want to ask you to involve yourself. Tell us what you’d like to see in your Thornton Park community by completing the survey found at www.urbanrethink.com. Thanks!

Come on down to Thornton Park, Washingston Street more specifically, on June 27, 2010 and join the cause. I’ll be selling books while the good people at Lambs Eat Ivy will be washing dogs. WORD.

On May 4th, 2010, I was interviewed by Rachel Wright for her Time for R & R radio show. It was good fun, and done while I was in Los Angeles on vacation. Find and listen to the podcast by clicking here!

The countdown is on for my first book signing–29 days. I’ll admit, I’m getting nervous. It’s cool things like this invitation my pal Michelle Cameron designed that keep me pressing forward. Simply amazing.

Hope to see you there!

It’s a shroom party.
During the month of May, 2010, Doug is asking that everyone take the time to make, plant and take pictures of their very own paper bag mushroom farm. His goal is to create the largest art installation in the world, and also to create awareness that art is everywhere. “I want to to create an experience for people, something they can tell their friends about and remember for years to come,” said the forty-one-year-old Orlando artist. “Art is essential: It promotes intelligence and creativity, and it’s a great expressive outlet that inspires people toward new perspectives on life, which we all need and need frequently.”
Making mushrooms is easy. All you need is a handful of brown, paper lunch bags, bamboo skewers, small rubber bands, glue sticks and a hot glue gun. Once you have all the materials, follow these steps. Then find a unique place to plant your artwork, take photos and send them to dougrhodehamel@yahoo.com. In the email, include your name or group’s name, the place (including the country, city and state) and how many mushrooms you made. Check Doug’s blog at the end of May to see who’s participated.
I’ll do it if you do it. Stay tuned for pictures.

Hey pals.
So we’re in the final edits of the text. It’s been such a LONG journey and a ton of writing and reading and re-writing and re-reading, but I think the final product will be well worth it. It looks like the release date is going to be pushed back into December. Wait to you see the marketing campaign that we’ve come up with–pretty fun and awesome. Anyhow, stay tuned. I’ll keep you posted as we move along …
Much love, jana.
PS. BurrowPress.com is up. Amanda, from Little Bird, LLC and also the designer of this site, is working up something brilliant. Please visit and re-visit.

So here we go.
The official announcement: a collection of interviews from waringis.com is on its way to becoming a book!
That’s right. A real life, tangible book. Right now, Burrow Press, LLC, my new company (stay tuned for its web site to come your way), is looking at a release date of November 16. The book will be different than the web site in many ways. The people whose interviews have been chosen for this compilation have been shot professionally in a studio by local photographer and life-long friend, Joey Meddock. James Krawcyzk, the brilliant designer of The Standerd (a beautiful wakeboarding/wakeskating magazine that is unfortunately no longer in print), is on board for lay out. Ryan Rivas, a Page 15 employee by day and writer/acoustic guitar player by night, is helping edit this mess. And finally, I’ve added writing that has never been seen before. For example, instead of each interview having an introduction, it will have a newly written reflection piece based on my experience (this is thanks to local author and Rollins professor, Dr. Phil Deaver and his genius).
This project is a labor of love. Most everyone is working extremely hard for peanuts, but I think the end result will be worth it. There’s also no way this would be possible without your enouragement and support.
SO THANK YOU.
Stay tuned … and start stashing away your dollars, this will make an excellent Christmas present. Guaranteed.
